This salmon coloured jelly is absolutely divine. Essentially, an exfoliator but it does a little more. Definitely, one of those masks that you should take your time with. This one is great for skins that easily react to acids. Alpha-H liquid gold was too strong for me. As effective as it is, turned my face quite raw. I haven’t gone back to using it since. (more…)
This looks like cooking oil in a fancy bottle, but it’s not. I read a million reviews before buying this and almost everyone, if not everyone love it. This is an oil that is to be used like a serum. After cleansing and toning, before moisturizers and makeup. Even with a oily texture, it is suitable for any skin type because it gets absorbed -Slowly but surely. Over the past few months I have struggled with patchy foundations. No matter how moisturizing, they made my face feel dry soon after. I can’t express how much of a difference this oil made. If you have dehydrated dry skin, let this be your next purchase. Pretty much anything put on top of it goes on like a dream. Some don’t like the smell of it. I think it’s lovely. It’s light floral on the sweet side but not sickly at all.
I have to say, it’s only been about two weeks since I started using this and it’s running out quite fast. Two to three drops, according to the instructions don’t quite do it for me. I use about five drops or more to cover my face and neck. You get 30ml for £25. Over the course of time, I haven’t noticed any restoration of elasticity like it says, it might be too soon to tell. It eliminates dry patches and skin tightness, as long as I’m wearing it. Which is every morning and don’t feel that horrible tightness all day. Something I was worried about was breaking out, but I haven’t. Ren is renowned for using good plant and mineral based ingredients and free from synthetic fragrances, synthetic colors, parabens etc.
Latest offering from Bobbi Brown is this serum induced foundation that is meant to hydrate normal-dry skin as well as protect with SPF 40. Sounds like a perfect Spring/Summer foundation to me. They have 16 shades in this range with Porcelain being the lightest to Warm Almond being the darkest. I was shade matched to “Honey”. Like most Bobbi Brown’s products, this one has a light fragrance too, which to me smells like a mix of milder balm rinse with sauteed mushrooms. The highlight of this particular foundation is the ingredients in it -Lychee, Bamboo Grass and Cordyceps Mushroom extracts. Out of Dior Nude Air, Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, BB’s Skin Serum in undoubtedly the most hydrating one. If you have seen any promotional videos or just Bobbi talking about this product, you will know there is much science and Chinese skincare involved in making this.
Ultrabland probably needs no introduction. A contender amongst many upmarket balm cleansers. I can’t compare this to them simply because this is my first ever balm cleanser. And oh my gawd, it’s beautiful. I have avoided this for a long time based on one review I had read, it said it was bad for blemish prone skin because of the ingredients in it -namely benzoin, Iris extract and rose absolute. I have blemish prone skin, but it didn’t break me out, no active acne right now. My skin was dry and patchy, no foundation went on nicely, moisturisers just got soaked up like sponge. I started looking out for good oily balm cleansers.
The texture feels just like room temperature butter. It even looks like it. A pale yellow-cream fluffy thick balm that turns oily as it melts on skin. This stuff won’t come off with rinsing alone. I like to use a damp wash cloth to wipe off. Toner + Cotton pad works too. It has a light smell, not pleasant but not very off-putting either. A size of a blob enough to fill the tip of your index finger, is good enough to get everything off. Doesn’t sting eyes and emulsifies waterproof mascara easily. A way I found to ensure moisture loss is to keep a layer of this cleanser on, like a mask while in the shower, wash off in the end.
It’s only been about two weeks, so I am guessing the small tub will last be about 7 to 9 weeks, on somedays I don’t use it as my morning cleanser. Any downside? This is targeted to a specific skin type, I think. I can feel a light layer of oil/moisture after washing it off, that might be undesirable by people with oily skin type. I would stay away from this if I had any active breakouts too. My face love this, made all the dry patches disappear so this is definitely a keeper.
Find at Lush, £7.25 for a 45gm tub.
Multipurpose balms are a hit or miss with people. This one is quite popular in the blogosphere along with some notable celebs. I love them because I go through them like toothpaste. But I have never come across something that smells this strong- of Rosemary, Lavender and Sweet Orange. To someone who doesn’t like lavender on its own, this concoction is quite nice, calming.
The slightly greenish tint cream is thick but definitely not oily. It disapears in seconds, leaving the skin smooth but not reliable for long term hydration for dry skin. This product has been reviewed to death, so I won’t bore you with anymore details and let you ask me questions if you have any!
I am loving baking right now. Thought I’d share a picture of my master fail but before I do, I must put it out there that I have never rolled a marizipan before and only recently learned how to use an electric whisk. Here’s my attempt at Petit Four, or as my husband calls it. Rubber.
Concealer is a major part of my makeup routine. This year, I want to perfect my base. When it comes to concealers, I haven’t found one that I can wear on it’s own, without a corrector or foundation. Except, this one called Amazing Concealer from the company Amazing Cosmetics. Just to give you a little hint on how much I like it, let’s say it’s value to me is higher than Rimmel wake me up concealer, Elizabeth Arden’s flawless finish concealer, Nars creamy concealer, Revlon colorstay. It works really well on my dry undereyes. It’s so easy to work with, don’t even need a brush or sponge, just dot and pat away till its even.
